Biography:

Charles Clarke was MP for Norwich South from 1997 to 2010. He served as Home Secretary from 2004-06 and had direct responsibility for migration, including the February 2005 White Paper, "Controlling our Borders: Making Migration Work for Britain" (Cm 6472). During the UK Presidency of the EU in 2005 he chaired the EU Council for Justice and Home Affairs.

Since 2011 he has been a member of the Transatlantic Council on Migration, a project of the Migration Policy Institute. He is a member of the International Advisory Board of the Schengen White List Project, which is run by the European Stability Initiative. He is a member of the European Council for Foreign Relations.

In 2012 he published for the Centre for European Reform a pamphlet, "The EU and Migration: A call for action"  and was Visiting Professor in Economics and Migration at University College London and a fellow at CReAM (the Centre for Research and Analysis in Migration).

His book 'The Too Difficult Box', an analysis of the problems which need to be overcome in promoting change, includes a chapter on Immigration.

He is also active in the field of international education and lives in Cambridge.
