Biography:

Jonas Tinius is completing a PhD in Social Anthropology at King's College, University of Cambridge. His ethnographic research addresses public theatres, artistic labour and self-cultivation, and the contemporary free performing arts scene in Germany. For the past two years, he has been documenting the ways in which local refugee art initiatives respond to and collaborate with public authorities to engage with the current refugee influx in Germany. He has been working closely with the refugee art collective RUHRORTER at the Theater an der Ruhr in the Ruhr Valley, developing collaborations between anthropological research and political art. He is co-editor of Anthropology, Theatre, and Development: The Transformative Potential of Performance (2015, Palgrave, with Alex Flynn) and co-convenor of the Interdisciplinary Performance Network at the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (CRASSH) in Cambridge.
