Rural-urban differences and how these are gendered

Dr Alice Evans is interested in the causes of egalitarian social change. Her current research focuses on rural-urban differences. Globally, there is greater support for gender equality in urban areas, such as in terms of girls’ education, women’s employment and leadership. Why is this?

To investigate how urban residency shapes gender ideologies and practices, Alice is presently undertaking ethnographic research in Zambia, with circular rural-urban migrants, as well as long-term rural and urban residents.

She is keen to collaborate with others engaging in similar questions in different parts of the world.
