Yu Qiu graduated from MPhil in Social anthropology program and joined the doctoral program as a recipient of the Cambridge Overseas Trust scholarship. She also holds a BA in Sociology from Tsinghua University. She is interested in issues of migration, racial identities, gender ideology, transnational marriage and romance, friendship politics, post-colonialism. Her doctoral research examines the social mechanism of intimacy by examining transnational intimate/business partnerships between Nigerian male migrants and Chinese women in Guangzhou (China) and Lagos (Nigeria). Currently, she is an IIAS-ASC postdoctoral fellow at African Studies Center and International Institute for Asian Studies at Leiden University.

Intimacy; gender relations; national and cultural belongings;race and racism; gender; marriage laws and legal history.
